Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel during the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, such as fiscal reform, the budget, and the Iran Contra affair. She traveled frequently with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
